Global electronics major Samsung assembles more smartphones in India in terms of its global volume than its rival Apple, a report by Business Standard said on June 12.
The Korean giant’s share of global final assembly volume of smartphones in India stood at 25 percent in FY24, compared to Cupertino-based tech major's 15 percent in the same period, BS said citing a S&P Global report.
Samsung fails to get the same attention as the iPhone maker due to the latter’s more ‘aggressive’ export strategy and higher value of assembled phones, BS said.
For Samsung, Vietnam is the biggest assembly destination with 55 percent of the global share, while Brazil takes the third spot with 12 percent of the pie, the report said.
China is still the biggest manufacturer of Apple’s iPhones with 83 percent of the total exposure, with Brazil accounting for a meagre 2 percent, the report said.
Interestingly, both the major smartphone makers don’t manufacture their products in the US, which led to President Donald Trump forcing the companies to make in America with the threat of a 25 percent tariff on imports.
Last month, Moneycontrol had reported that India wants Apple to scale up its local production by leveraging a new electronics components scheme. This comes despite Trump’s tariff threat against Apple on import of smartphones.
In addition, the Tim Cook-led company has plans to significantly boost the production of iPhone 17’s Pro models in 2025 to meet the US demand, Moneycontrol had reported.
