Engineering services company Tata Technologies has disclosed on January 31 a 'ransomware incident' which affected few of its IT assets, after which some of the services were temporarily suspended.
The services were discontinued as precaution, and have now been fully restored, the company added. "...some of the IT services were suspended temporarily and have now been restored. Our Client delivery services have remained fully functional and unaffected throughout," the statement said.
"Further detailed investigation is underway in consultation with experts to assess the root cause and to take remedial action as necessary. We remain committed to the highest standards of security and data protection and are taking all necessary steps to mitigate any potential risks," said Tata Tech.
The company provides outsourced engineering and digital transformation services to global manufacturing clients, and is ranked among India's leading ER&D service providers.
During September 2024, a major fire had been reported at Tata Electronics (TEPL) facility near Hosur, Tamil Nadu, following which a forensic investigation had been ordered by the local authorities.
A recent report by CyberPeace has said that India has seen a significant 55% rise in ransomware attacks in in 2024. The industrial sector was the most targetted, with 75% of the attacks on these companies. In July 2024, a ransomware attack targeted C-Edge Tech, a service provider to nearly 1,500 cooperative and rural regional banks in India, affecting payment systems of nearly 300 small banks.
