Thomas Cook (India) signed a long-term agreement with a global distribution company Amadeus. Amit Madhan, COO-IT & e-Services of Thomas Cook (India) spoke about the agreement details and company's future prospects.
Below is the transcript of Amit Madhan's interview with Anuj Singhal and Ekta Batra on CNBC-TV18.
Ekta: Can you start by taking us through what this tie up is with Amadeus and how would it impact your profit and loss (P&L), any sort of an outflow from your P&L that we could see on account of this?
A: It was a long process of evaluation among various distribution partners and we selected on Amadeus based on the best fit for us and scalability. So from the P&L point of view, the whole focus is on automation and getting the productivity gains that is going to impact our P&L also.
Ekta: Will there be any sort of logistical or operational savings that you could see on account of this?
A: It is not logistical, it is more about productivity gains that we can see because a lot of things, which we are doing are in the manual environment -- that can be automated by using various tools that are available from the provider.
Ekta: For example, your margins were crunched down 130 bps in the previous quarter, will this particular tie-up with this global distribution company help it in any way to improve in the coming quarter or when the real deal kicks in?
A: No, I think this is more a long-term, five-year horizon and it is a long-term deal. We are already using Amadeus but by using various other tools which are offered by Amadeus, we will start seeing benefits as far as productivity gains are concerned in the ticket booking environment.
