"India cannot allow the narrative of carbon imperialism to chart our own course" that's the word from India's Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramanian who was speaking at an event organised by the energy and resources institute or Teri. He went on to say that renewable energy comes with hidden costs which we cannot ignore and asserted that coal will and should remain as India's primary source of power at least in the short-run. He called for a joint policy for both renewables and coal.
At the same event, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu backed the statements made by the Chief Economic Advisor. Prabhu said that India cannot take full responsibility for coal and other fossil fuels. However he also admitted that renewables will be the only way to meet future needs. He also supported the Chief Economic Advisor's pitch for a joint policy for both coal and renewables.
