Former manager of a nationalized bank and two other persons were sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined over Rs two lakh each by a special CBI court in a graft case.


Those convicted were A Mahadevappa, the then Manager, Andhra Bank, Credit Card Division, J C Road here and two others -- Umaprasad and Shiva Kumar, a CBI spokesperson said today.
CBI had filed a charge sheet against them after completion of investigation under different Sections of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The allegations as per the charge sheet were that the former bank manager entered into a criminal conspiracy between 1995 and 1997 with the other two accused for diverting credit card charge slip amount pertaining to a Bangalore-based Hotel into the individual credit card accounts held by Umaprasad and Shiva Kumar.
"The amount of Rs 8.18 lakh so diverted by A Mahadevappa was utilised by the accused persons for purchase of jewellery and electronic gadgets," the spokesman said.
The cash withdrawals through credit card were shared among them, causing a wrongful loss of Rs 8.18 lakh to Andhra Bank, the spokesman said.
