Jet-Etihad deal to make industry efficient: Ajit Singh

Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh has said Jet-Etihad deal will benefit passengers and the sector at large. The deal will lead to more efficiency amongst airlines that will also have to be competent, the minister told CNBC-Tv18 in an exclusive interview.

Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh has said that Jet-Etihad deal will benefit passengers and the sector at large. The deal will lead to more efficiency amongst airlines that will also have to be competent, the minister told CNBC-TV18 in an exclusive interview.


International traffic from India currently stands at 28 lakh and will increase to 45 lakh in next five years, he said and no domestic carrier can cater to this kind of traffic rise alone,” he said.


He also said that the Jet-Etihad deal will come into existence after completion of internal processes pertaining to the deal.

On differences that have cropped up between airlines and the ministry over the latter’s proposal to increase bilateral rights to Abu Dhabi, the minister said that there is no assurance given to Abu Dhabi on traffic rights before the deal and  giving bilateral does not mean, it will be utilized fully.
