While the comprehensive immigration reform bill doesn't seem to be nearing reforms anytime soon, the US house of representatives has voted in favour of removing country specific caps relating to such green cards.

At the moment, the backlog on Indian green cards is at 2, 10,000 or a wait period of nearly 70 years.
If this act comes into effect, it hopes to retain both students who have studied at American universities and employees working there. Moreover, we understand that the senator Grassley who has favoured more American jobs for Americans has already voiced his dissent.
However, the Indian IT Industry body NASSCOM said it is positive that the US Senate will also vote in favour of these reforms.
NASSCOM President Som Mittal indicated, "We are very positive that this will go through as the US needs highly skilled workers. I hope this would resolve some immigration issues for the long-term people, but the short-term would still need to work. This is at least one progressive step made."
