CNBC-TV18's Young Turks Startup Tracker brings you a daily roundup of events in the startup space. Take a look at the latest in the space. Six months after online classifieds major Quikr acquired realty portal Commonfloor, Quikr continues to streamline operations. Today it has shut down Flatchat's office. Flatchat is a rental flatmate-finding application owned by Commonfloor; the product is now being merged with messaging service Quikr Nxt and 52 employees have been given the option to join one of Quikr's portfolio companies and move geographies.
Sheroes, a Delhi-based job and career platform for women has raised USD 1.8 million in series A funding. The investment was led by Lumis Partners along with the HR fund and angel investor Rajul Garg. Existing investor, Raghav Bahl's Quintillion Media also participated in the round. Sheroes will use the funds to build out the technology that powers its platform.
Pune-based grocery delivery startup Tokri has raised USD 2.5 million in a pre-series A round from the Syska LED Group. Founded in April 2015, Tokri operates on a hybrid model with both its own inventory, and SKUs supplied by other merchants. Tokri plans to use the capital to upgrade and set up warehouses in Pune and other cities. Remember, startups in the grocery segment have hit turbulent times with as many as five startups having shuttered operations this year alone.
And another difficult space has been food and food tech but that hasn't deterred Flipkart CEO, Binny Bansal and Shaadi.com founder, Anupam Mittal from putting close to a million dollars into Yumlane. This Mumbai-based startup claims to be doing things differently by leveraging the vast network of offline retailers in the country for delivering food. Customers can pre-order the food online, make payments and collect the food from the nearest Yumlane outlet. At present, Yumlane is operational in Mumbai where it has partnered with 10 retail points.
And it is a day for contrarian calls it seems with hyperlocal delivery startup, Daily Ninja raising an undisclosed amount in pre-series A led by Nuventures' Venk Krishnan, Taxiforsure co-founder Aprameya Radhakrishna, Anupam Mittal and Kunal Shah of Freecharge. Daily Ninja perhaps stands out because it follows a subscription-based model for daily grocery deliveries.
