Telecom Commission to meet today; discuss 700 MHz pricing

The Telecom Commission is expected to meet on Saturday to discuss spectrum auction modalities. The committee will discuss various issues including spectrum pricing. CNBC-TV18’s Prerna Baruah says that the committee will undertake discussions on 700 MHz spectrum for which the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had recommended a price of Rs 11,485 crore per MHz. Telecom companies had hit out at TRAI for suggesting such a hefty amount for the above spectrum. Even London-based Global Mobile Operator’s Group (GSMA) on Thursday had exhorted the Telecom Commission to reduce the recommended price, failing which the airwaves could remain unsold in the next spectrum sale.
