On Monday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, O Panneerselvam wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requested Rs 39,500 crore from the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) to help the state tackle the drought. However, as the state administration and the people in rural Tamil Nadu wait to see how the Centre will respond, CNBC-TV18's Jude Sannith, who is in Tamil Nadu's agricultural belt in Tirunelveli district, reports that an already fragile rural economy is showing cracks.
