The government may announce package for sugar sector in a day or two, reports CNBC-TV18. According to sources in the food ministry, the package will address issues related to buffer stock. It may even include decision to hike import duty, increase ethanol blending limit and sugar release mechanism.
It may be recalled that issues on sugar sector and farm crisis have been discussed in meeting convened by Prime Minister on Monday. Earlier in the day, Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said the state government will have to push mill owners to pay arrears, which currently stands at Rs 21,000 crore. He said the government is mulling proposal to create buffer stock for sugar but said that he cannot give any assurance on further export incentive.
