Ex Aircel owner Sivasankaran enters app-based cabs biz with UTOO

The start-up, which will initially start its operations in the six metros, Pune and Jaipur aims to make home-office commute easy and comfortable.

Former Aircel owner C Sivasankaran has entered India's crowded taxi space with the launch of UTOO cabs. CNBC-TV18 caught up with Sivasankaran on the sidelines of the launch where he said UTOO will begin with a fleet of 1,000 cars in Chennai and scale it up to 100,000 cars in phase one of its expansion.

The start-up will initially start its operations in the six metros, Pune and Jaipur.

UTOO cabs aims to make home-office commute easy and comfortable. The users will be able to book rides and create their own route through the UTOO app.

The launch of UTOO comes at a time when Bengaluru-based Ola and its American competitor Uber are locked in an intense pricing battle, pushing cabs at Rs 6 a kilometre and as the tough fare battle rages on, UTOO is offering personalised shuttle service to office at Rs 4 per km.Watch video for more...
