After finding mercury in L’Oreal fairness products, the Maharashtra Food & Drug Association (FDA) is now testing lipsticks of popular brands for heavy metals, sources say. The regulatory body is testing branded and un-branded lipsticks to check for traces of mercury, which is not permissible in cosmetics. Big companies like Lakme, Revlon and L’Oreal are under the scanner. Sources say that Maharashtra FDA has collected around 15-20 samples of lipsticks and the test results are expected over next two to three weeks. HUL, reverting to CNBC-TV18’s query, said that the company has not received any information on pick-up of Lakme products by the Maharashtra government. HUL also said that its products are safe and it complies with all required regulations.
