It is not just the steel sector which is seeking a lifeline from the government; the copper producers too have now made a presentation to the principal secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and the mining ministry officials, seeking reduction in customs duty on copper concentrates from 2.5 percent to nil.
The producers also want a 2.5 percent hike in the customs duty imposed on finished copper products from 5 percent to 7.5 percent.
