India's e-commerce giant Flipkart happens to find itself on the wrong side of the law for more reasons than one. The Competition Commission of India has initiated a preliminary investigation against Flipkart for alleged predatory pricing, reports CNBC-TV18’s Prerna Baruah.
Sources have told CNBC-TV18 that competition watchdog has registered a preliminary investigation against Flipkart.
It is also learnt that the CCI may look into details of the pricing policies undertaken by Flipkart and may also initiate a full-fledged enquiry against it if any contravention to Competition Act is found.
This investigation follows after the CCI received several complainants against Flipkart.
On October 6, during Flipkart's much hyped Big Billion Day sale, it had offered steep discounts across product categories to its customers, which led to protest by several brick an--mortar retailers as well as trader communities who alleged that Flipkart had indulged in predatory pricing tactics.
This is exactly what CCI will have to ascertain if at all Flipkart's pricing policy is predatory or not.
