Apollo Pharmacy, the country's largest branded medical stores chain, has put an interim halt on sale of Ranbaxy drugs as a precautionary step, according to a report by Business Standard.
Apollo Pharmacy is a division of healthcare major Apollo Hospitals. Also read: Apollo Pharmacy halts Ranbaxy drugs sales Last month, Mumbai's Jaslok Hospital had issued an advisory asking its doctors to avoid prescribing Ranbaxy medicines. That advisory was later removed. Shobana Kamineni, Executive Director, Apollo Hospitals Group today told CNBC-TV18, that the company hasn't withdrawn Ranbaxy drugs totally. A review with Ranbaxy officials is underway and Apollo Hospital will issue a final statement on the matter on June 8. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has agreed for an early hearing of the Public-interest litigation (PIL) filed against Ranbaxy's manufacturing licence. The apex court will hear the PIL next week which sought the shutdown of two manufacturing plants of Ranbaxy. The PIL has sought the ban in India on grounds that Ranbaxy fudged data and sold adulterated drugs in the US. The litigation also wants the court to order a CBI probe into the matter.
