Roads ministry allocation unchanged at Rs 2.78 lakh cr in Budget 2024-25 from interim Budget, up 3% on year

The ministry completed the construction of 12,349 km of national highways in 2023-24 after constructing 10,993 km of highways in FY23, according to officials from MoRTH.

Budgetary allocation to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) remained unchanged in the Union Budget for 2024-25 presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 23, from the interim Budget that was presented before the general elections.

MoRTH's budgetary allocation in the Union Budget was raised by three percent to around Rs 2.78 lakh crore for 2024-25 from 2.7 lakh crore a year back, in the Interim Budget presented by Sitharaman on February 1.

The government had set a target of building 13,000 km and 13,800 km of highways in 2022-23 and 2023-24, but the speed of construction was affected by unfavourable weather conditions and elections in many states.

The ministry completed construction of 12,349 km of national highways in 2023-24 after building 10,993 km of highways in FY23, according to ministry officials.
