The government will spend Rs 7,300 crore on its flagship health scheme Ayushman Bharat in FY25.
The finance minister in her budget speech on July 23 increased the allocation to Rs 7,300 crore for the scheme compared with Rs 6,800 crore spent on the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana in FY24.
The Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana of the NHM registered a 27.7 percent growth between FY19 and FY24.
The scheme provides cashless and paperless insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh per annum per family on floater basis in empanelled hospitals.
The PM-JAY dashboard shows that the scheme has led to 68.6 million hospital admissions, with 1.9 million admissions taking place in the previous 30 days.
Southern states have taken most advantage of the scheme. Tamil Nadu topped the states with 9 million admissions, followed by Karnataka at 6.6 million.
Health spending also received a boost in the budget, with the government allocating Rs 90,958 crore to the programme, compared to Rs 90,658 crore earmarked in the Interim Budget.
Health spending shares have remained unchanged over the last decade, with the central government spending a mere 0.3 percent of the GDP on health.
