A 6-year-old was raped and brutally assaulted with an iron rod in Gujarat's Atkot village. The 30-year-old accused, who kidnapped the girl on December 4, reportedly inserted the one foot metal rod into the minor's private parts.
The girl's parents were working on a farm when Ramsingh took her to an isolated place nearby and assaulted her. They later found their daughter bleeding profusely and rushed her to a nearby hospital in Rajkot. The minor's condition is slated to be stable.
As soon as the hospital authorities informed the police, 10 teams were constituted given the gravity of the crime. The teams reviewed CCTV footage from surrounding villages, and also analysed telecom data to identify all mobile phones active in the vicinity at the time of the incident.
Police compiled a list of 140 potential suspects and called each of them in to verify their alibis. "We eventually narrowed the list to 10 individuals and, with the support of a child counsellor, women officers and doctors, showed their photographs to the girl. She identified one of them, who was subsequently detained and questioned," said Vijaysinh Gurjar, Superintendent of Police, Rajkot Rural.
Ramsingh, a father of three, has confessed to the crime. He is a native of Alirajpur in Madhya Pradesh and has been working in Rajkot rural area for the past two years.
The police registered an offence under BNS section 65 (2) and POCSO Act sections 5 (I), 5 (M), and 6 (1) on Monday night based on the complaint filed by the victim's father.
