Poll-bound Telangana, by sheer coincidence, witnessed on Wednesday a couple of interesting developments. First came a “wedding invite” portraying BJP and BRS as bride and groom posted by the Congress on its social media platforms. The second event was the exit of former lawmaker Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy from the BJP, and his near-certain return to Congress.

The two incidents are seemingly dissimilar. But they projected the same underlying message. One was a conscious effort by the Congress to paint the BJP and the ruling BRS as being on the same page and that both were acting as a B-team for each other.

The optics of the other incident was far more damaging to BJP. Reddy was a prized catch from Congress in 2022, which necessitated the Munugode bypoll, and his return to the Congress camp is a huge loss of face to BJP.
