Despite regulations, some cosmetic products still contain mercury, making it crucial for consumers to be vigilant about the ingredients in their skincare and makeup products.
The dangers of mercury in cosmetics
Mercury is often added to cosmetic products for its ability to lighten the skin and preserve the product. However, these benefits come at a high cost to health. When applied to the skin, mercury can be absorbed and cause immediate and long-term health issues.
Immediate skin reactions
One of the first signs of mercury exposure through cosmetics is skin irritation. Users may experience redness, itching, and rashes. Allergic reactions are also common, leading to hives or severe dermatitis. Prolonged use can result in more persistent skin problems such as
