It has become noticeable in the last few years that there is increase in the number of women, in their early 30's, getting diseases related to their lifestyle. Modern lifestyle changes and habits are the main causes, but heredity plays a factor too. If you calculate the negative impact modern lifestyle habits will have on a woman at a young age, then the negative effects on their health stand much greater chance of hitting them sooner than expected.
Dr. Parinita Kaur, Principal Consultant and Unit Head - Internal Medicine, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dwarka, says that the rapid urban living, increased stress levels and dreadful food choices are leading to women's health concerns much earlier than expected.
Kaur also elaborates how the lifestyle is impacting overall health in women today then ever.
1. Poor Food Decisions
Processed and sugary food: The consumption of processed foods, sugary drinks, and trans-fat will lead to metabolic issues, inflammation, and excessive weight gain.
Nutrient deficiencies: A diet devoid of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains means your body is missing vital nutrients and antioxidants, and your illness and disease risk is elevated.
Incorrect eating habits: Eating at all times of the day (i.e., late at night or in the morning), or skipping meals will throw off insulin and metabolism, and forfeit your most important health factor, which is maintaining blood sugars (homeostasis).
2. Sedentary Lifestyle
Low activity rates: Sitting in front of a screen for long periods or behind a desk at work are two of the reasons they are less physically active than ever, increases their risks of developing type 2 Diabetes, obesity, and heart disease.
Long periods of sitting: Long periods of sitting or being inactive can slow down blood circulation and hormonal balance, which all contribute to the health conditions mentioned above as well are just as imperative are contributing to chronic illnesses.
3. Stress and Mental Health
Chronic Stress: Work, family, and social obligations frequently lead to chronic stress, which raises cortisol levels and may promote inflammation and weight gain.
Sleep Disruption: Stress or unpredictable schedules can cause poor sleep which affects immunological and hormone equilibrium.
4. The Rise in Obesity
Weight gains due to inactivity, stress and poor eating are significant causes of a number of diseases, including diabetes, heart disease and specific cancers.
5. Hormonal Health Issues
PCOS and other conditions: Lifestyle parameters have likely compounded conditions such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), whose incidence is increasing.
Reproductive health conditions: A growing relationship exists between shifting lifestyle factors and diagnoses of fibroids, early menstruation and menopause.
6. Exposures to the Environment
Daily exposures to chemicals and pollutants in products and in the environment can disturb hormone balance that leads to metabolic and reproductive issues.
7. Age-Related Changes begin Early
Bad lifestyle choices can accelerate the aging process, resulting in diseases like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol developing earlier than they should.
While it is alarming to see the rise of lifestyle diseases in women aged 30 but with an active approach to living a lifestyle of regular exercise, healthy eating, stress management, good sleeping and regular check-ups with their doctor, effective prevention or management of these lifestyle disorders is easily possible.
