In a post-match interview that has since garnered a lot of attention, Virat Kohli paid a heartfelt homage to his wife, actress Anushka Sharma, after leading Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to their eagerly anticipated IPL 2025 title.
The triumph put an end to RCB's 18-year wait to win the coveted IPL trophy, and Kohli made it apparent that Anushka's steadfast support was essential to this process.
“She’s been coming here and supporting RCB since 2014, so it’s been 11 years for her as well," Virat shared, his voice laden with emotion. “She’s been there relentlessly — coming to the games, watching the tough ones, watching us just miss out. What your life partner does for you to be able to play, the sacrifices, the commitment, and just backing you through thick and thin — it’s something you can’t really explain in words."
Since the beginning of the Indian Premier League, Kohli has been associated with RCB. He also thought about the difficulties that professional athletes' partners and families face, which are frequently hidden.
“Only when you play professionally do you understand the amount of things that go on behind the scenes and what they go through as well. Anushka has gone through it all emotionally — watching me be down and out. Her coming to games… she’s a Bengaluru girl too, and she’s so, so proud," he added, acknowledging not only her support but also her personal connection to the city and team.
Since getting married in 2017, Kohli and Anushka have continuously shown a great deal of respect and support for one another's professional endeavours.
Anushka showed her unwavering support for Virat and his team as they fought for the coveted title at the thrilling IPL final against Punjab Kings, which was held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
