Bollywood’s latest release Jaat, featuring Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, and Viineet Kumar Siingh, has stirred a major controversy just days after its theatrical release on April 10. The Christian community has raised strong objections to a particular church scene in the film, calling it deeply offensive and demanding an immediate ban on its screening.

The controversial scene shows Randeep Hooda’s character standing beneath a crucifix inside a church, right above the sacred pulpit, as worshippers pray. The sequence allegedly also depicts acts of intimidation and hooliganism, which has drawn the ire of Christian leaders and religious organizations.

According to representatives from the community, the scene disrespects the sanctity of the church, especially the pulpit—a sacred space reserved for spiritual preaching. They believe the portrayal hurts their religious sentiments and paints Christianity in a negative light. Allegations have also been made suggesting that the scene is part of a “deliberate conspiracy” to defame the Christian faith.

Initially, members of the community had planned protests outside various theatres screening the film.
