Ranbir Kapoor is all set to take the big screen by storm, not with just another Bollywood flick, but with a massive cinematic gamble—Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. Forget Rs 1600 crore; the final budget for this two-part epic is nearing a staggering Rs 4000 crore. That’s around $500 million, putting it on par with some of the most expensive films ever made globally, not just in India.
This mythological retelling isn’t just a film; it’s a full-blown experience. With VFX production on an international scale, AI-powered dubbing in multiple regional languages, and music by legends Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman, Ramayana is shaping up to be India’s answer to the Hollywood blockbuster format—only with a lot more emotional and cultural weight.
The cast is equally ambitious. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi steps in as Sita, and Yash takes on the iconic role of Ravana. That alone would be enough to fill theatres, but the makers have packed in more: Sunny Deol, Vikrant Massey, Lara Dutta, Ravi Dubey, Indira Krishnan, Vivek Oberoi, and Arun Govil all have key roles in the film. The release plan is spread across two years, with Part 1 coming out during Diwali 2026, and Part 2 in 2027.
What makes this even more groundbreaking is the tech being used. The film is said to be VFX-heavy, designed for IMAX, and will use AI dubbing to allow audiences across India to watch it in their preferred language without sacrificing quality. This kind of dubbing innovation is a first in Indian cinema, and it’s being led by Prime Focus, with producer Namit Malhotra at the helm of the technical operations.
On top of that, a motion poster was recently revealed, giving us animated glimpses of Ranbir’s Ram and Yash’s Ravana. While it didn’t show full visuals, the background score by Zimmer and Rahman was enough to spark massive anticipation online.
The buzz is real, and the stakes are high. With a budget this colossal and a story as sacred as the Ramayana, the margin for error is razor thin. But if the film delivers on even half of what’s being promised, it could redefine Indian cinema on a global stage.
