Mujras in Bollywood film music for the most part have remained melancholic or seductive in its tenor. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is out to redefine how mujras can be presented.
Sonakshi Sinha as Fareedan is seen at her sultry and sizzling best in the just-released track from the series, the second song from the period drama series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar to release, Tilasmi Bahein, which roughly translates to magical arms or embrace.
For the first time ever, one will see Sonakshi Sinha in a dark avatar, with intense eyes that pierced right through the screen.
The peppy dance track sung by Sharmistha Chatterjee features Sonakshi, dressed in a champagne-coloured sequin saree, and in all her seductive, take-no-prisoner glory. She makes all the men surrounding her dance to her tune. The entire music video was shot in one take. She looks unruffled by others as she breaks into a sultry performance, in a never-seen-before avatar, setting the dance floor on fire.
In the comment section below, one social media user pointed out, “So much nuances in one take ! SLB the genius”, whereas another shared, “Omg. Sona just killed it. Love her so much in the song. She is gonna blow our minds in Heeramandi . Just can't wait for series now.” At the end of the song, Sonakshi leaves us in awe with her angry and powerful glare at Aditi Rao Hydari, who is watching her from a distance.
Also starring Richa Chadha, Manisha Koirala, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Sharmin Segal, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar will premiere on Netflix on May 1.
