A Japanese woman in her 50s has been formally charged—though not detained—for allegedly forcing a kiss on BTS member Jin during a public fan event last year.
The Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors’ Office confirmed on Monday that she has been indicted on charges of indecent assault.
The incident is said to have unfolded at Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul’s Songpa District in June last year, just days after Jin, whose real name is Kim Seok-jin, completed his military service and returned to public life.
During the fan meeting, the woman reportedly rushed up to him and pressed a kiss onto his cheek without his consent—an act that left many fans shocked and deeply upset.
In the hours that followed, fans turned to the National Petition System to file complaints, calling her behaviour inappropriate and unacceptable, especially in such a large crowd. Their concerns helped prompt an official investigation by Songpa Police.
Police temporarily halted the probe in March due to delays caused by the suspect repeatedly failing to appear.
Eventually, however, she voluntarily arrived for questioning, allowing authorities to move forward. After reviewing the evidence, investigators concluded that the allegations were credible and passed the case on to prosecutors.

Jin, the oldest member of BTS, completed his military duty in June 2024 and has been slowly returning to the public eye, taking part in fan events and promotional activities.
Despite the attention the case has received, neither Jin nor his agency has commented on the situation, choosing instead to focus on his post-service activities.
