A Kolkata based actress has filed a complaint against the noted Bengali director Arindam Sil, accusing him of kissing her without her consent during a film shoot. The incident allegedly took place on April 3 at a resort off NH-117 during the filming of a movie. The actress filed an FIR under sections 354 (using force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 509 (insulting a woman’s modesty through words or gestures) of the Indian Penal Code.
In her statement, the actress detailed how Sil had touched her inappropriately during a scene that didn't involve any kiss.
Despite issuing an apology letter at the West Bengal Commission for Women’s office, the actress accused Sil of continuing to lie about the situation. “Given the criminal nature of his actions, I decided to file an FIR to ensure that he faces exemplary punishment,” she said. The actress stated that she had informed her employer about the incident and approached the production house multiple times without receiving any response.
The incident reportedly worsened when a co-actor made sexually explicit jokes, which further added to her discomfort. The actress claims that when she confronted the director, he mocked her, saying, "Oh, didn’t you like it?" She found this comment particularly offensive and was appalled by the audacity of his remarks. She also notified her company's representative, but no action was taken.
In response to these allegations, Arindam Sil has vehemently denied the accusations, stating that he has faith in the judicial system and has proof of his innocence. He said, "I am not insane to do such a thing in front of everyone. I have numerous witnesses, right from my DOP to my assistant directors." Sil criticized the media and the actress for using social platforms to escalate the issue. He expressed frustration over the fact that the West Bengal Commission for Women (WBCW) reacted "unilaterally" and mentioned that his emails regarding the case went unanswered.
The case continues to develop, with the director maintaining his innocence and the actress standing firm in her claims of misconduct. Both parties are expected to present their evidence in the ongoing investigation.
