Karan Aujla, the Punjabi pop sensation known for his chart-topping hits like Tauba Tauba, is gearing up for his debut concert tour in India. His It Was All A Dream World Tour has generated considerable buzz, particularly with the announcement of ticket prices that have left many fans and music enthusiasts raising eyebrows.
Despite being a relatively new name in the international music scene compared to legends like Diljit Dosanjh or global stars like Coldplay and Maroon 5, Aujla's concert ticket prices are astonishingly high, surpassing even those of some of the biggest acts in the world.
Scheduled to begin on December 7 in Chandigarh, Aujla's tour will cover several major cities including Bengaluru, New Delhi, and Mumbai, with the final performance taking place on December 21. For his shows, particularly in Gurugram and Mumbai, ticket prices have reached unprecedented levels, causing a stir in the Indian music concert scene.
One of the most eye-catching tickets is the VVIP Diamond pass, priced at Rs 1 lakh per person. This ticket is a part of a group offer for 15 people at Aujla’s Gurugram and Mumbai shows, making it a luxury experience that comes with exclusive perks like "8 luxury bottles, 2 premium champagne bottles, unlimited beers, and energy drinks/mixers."
The premium ticket for these shows costs a hefty Rs 15 lakh for a group entry, which is significantly higher than the most expensive passes for any other artist’s performances in India, including Diljit Dosanjh.
For perspective, Diljit Dosanjh’s ticket prices are relatively more affordable. The lounge passes for his Mumbai concert on December 19 are priced at Rs 22,000, much lower than Aujla’s VVIP ticket. Even for fans attending Aujla’s concerts in other cities, prices for similar group tickets range from Rs 3 lakh in Kolkata to Rs 6.5 lakh in Hyderabad. These high ticket prices have ignited a debate about the growing trend of inflated concert prices, especially for artists who are relatively new to the Indian concert scene.
When compared to global acts, Aujla’s tickets still seem remarkably high. British pop band Coldplay, whose music has a universal appeal, recently announced their concert prices in India, with the most expensive tickets priced at Rs 35,000 and the cheapest at Rs 2,500. Similarly, Maroon 5’s tickets ranged between Rs 5,000 and Rs 20,000 for their recent Mumbai concert, and Dua Lipa’s show in the city had tickets ranging from Rs 3,500 to Rs 45,000. Even with such global reach and fanbases, the ticket prices for these international acts remain significantly lower than Aujla’s premium tickets.
The stark contrast in pricing has led some to wonder about the reasons behind Aujla's decision to charge such high prices. For one, his popularity has skyrocketed in recent years, particularly among younger audiences in India and among the Punjabi diaspora worldwide. This rapid rise in popularity could explain why Aujla’s team is aiming to offer a premium, luxury experience to his fans. However, the steep prices also reflect the increasing commercialization of live music events in India, where a select few are willing to pay for extravagant experiences.
