Yoga is an integral part of the Indian culture. Recognising its importance to holistic health and wellbeing, on 11 December 2014, the United Nations declared 21 June as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131. The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness on the benefits and importance on Yoga.
On this day of spirituality and mindfulness, many celebrities and notable personalities are taking to their social media accounts to share pictures and partake in the celebration of this healthy activity.
Starting with our Prime Minster Narendra Modi, who performed yoga in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar to mark the 10th International Yoga Day. The event was scheduled at 6:30 AM at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) on the banks of the Dal Lake but it was later relocated indoors after heavy rain broke out.
Actress and BJP MP Hema Malini also performed yoga in Mathura. She said, “Happy to have participated in today’s yoga day celebration. I would urge everyone to practice yoga daily for at least half an hour.”
Actress Rakul Preet Singh shared pictures of her performing various yoga asanas with her husband Jackky Bhagnani on her Instagram account and wrote, Together in wellness and all things beautiful happy #internationaldayofyoga to all you lovely people .. #fittogetherstaytogether Yoga is a state of mind , a state of bliss, a feeling of being one with yourself and the universe take baby steps towards a healthier you”
Actress Vidya Malavade shared a video of her teaching yoga to a crowd in Delhi. She said, “You have woken up so early in the morning to come and do this yoga class. This one hour, it’s just you, me and our practice together.”
Actress Nikita Dutta also shared pictures of her performing various asanas on her Instagram handle. She wrote, “Yoga begins with listening, accepting and then moving. One rightly says that everyday is a good day for yoga. The power of your yoga mat is much more than you think. Take it one day at a time. It only gets better with practise. Keep bending so you don’t break.”
