David Schwimmer reveals he hated FRIENDS theme song, says, "I never watched the show"

David Schwimmer, famously known for playing Ross Geller on the iconic sitcom Friends, recently admitted he wasn’t a fan of the show’s theme song “I’ll Be There for You” by The Rembrandts. In a candid revelation on the Making a Scene podcast with Matt Lucas and David Walliams, Schwimmer confessed: “I’ll be really honest – there was a time for quite a while that just hearing the theme song would really uggh.”

The actor, now 58, shared that his aversion stemmed from the sheer repetition of the tune and the overwhelming fame that surrounded the show. “I was hearing it on repeat,” he said, adding that listening to the song countless times made him feel “miserable.” He elaborated that his distaste for the theme tune developed during a time when he was grappling with the loss of anonymity and the pressures of newfound fame.

Schwimmer recalled a significant moment when the show’s director, Jim Burroughs, took the cast to Las Vegas before the series aired. “We were walking through the casino at one point, and he said, ‘Remember this moment, it’s the last time you’re going to be able to walk through a casino like this.’” That warning hit home just months later. While at LAX, he was startled by a group of screaming girls. “I hear a blood-curdling scream. I was genuinely frightened. I thought someone was being stabbed or something. And a group of girls come and like – like literally just scream and grab me. And they won’t let me go.”
