Ludhiana Lok Sabha elections result: Amrinder Singh Raja Warring won from Congress with over 26,000 margin

The BJP who is contesting solo this time, having parted ways with its long-time ally Shiromani Akali Dal (Sukhbir Badal) in 2020 has not bagged any seats.

The key candidates in the fray for this seat are Ravneet Singh Bittu, Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and Ashok Prashar Pappi representing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Indian National Congress (INC) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) respectively.

In a curious turn of events, Bittu, the sitting MP, switched from Congress to the BJP in March. Ludhiana is a constituency where Hindu votes are expected to play a role, holding out hope for the BJP, which is a marginal player in the state.

The Ludhiana constituency comprises nine assembly segments: Ludhiana East, Ludhiana South, Atam Nagar, Ludhiana Central, Ludhiana West, Ludhiana North, Gill (Reserved), Dhaka, and Jagraon (Reserved). This diversity makes Ludhiana's political landscape complex and dynamic.

Past elections

In 2014, the BJP- Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) alliance had emerged as the dominant force in Punjab, winning six seats. While the SAD secured four seats, BJP won two seats. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made a notable debut, winning four seats, while the Congress managed to secure only three seats.

In the 2019 elections, the political landscape shifted, with the Congress winning eight seats. The SAD and BJP secured two seats each, while AAP obtained one seat.

2024 exit polls

The News18 Mega Exit Poll has forecast that the Congress will bag 8-10 seats. The BJP, which contested the Lok Sabha elections in the state on its own after 25 years, is projected to get two to four seats. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is likely to get 0-1 seat.
