The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has ignited a political showdown in Maharashtra's Baramati Lok Sabha constituency with its announcement of Sunetra Pawar, wife of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, as its candidate, against Supriya Sule, daughter of NCP supremo Sharad Pawar.

Sunetra Pawar expressing her gratitude and readiness for the challenge, hailed the announcement as a fortunate moment. "This is a lucky day for me. I thank Narendra Modiji, Amit Shah, and all leaders of Mahayuti (Shiv Sena, BJP, and NCP) for considering me capable of fighting the election," Sunetra Pawar told a Marathi news channel. "Voters have taken the fight in their hands," she said when asked about facing off with Supriya Sule.

However, the real battle appears to be within the Pawar family, as Ajit Pawar and his uncle, Sharad Pawar, engage in a power struggle for dominance in Maharashtra's political landscape.

In the 2019 elections, Supriya Sule secured a hat-trick of wins in the Baramati constituency as the NCP candidate. Baramati Lok Sabha constituency is comprised of six assembly segments: Baramati town, Indapur, Daund, Purandar, Bhor, and Khadakwasla.
