The ruling BJP has lined up seven union ministers, who are members of the Rajya Sabha, for the 2024 Lok Sabha battle.
They are among the 195 candidates, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, named in the BJP’s first list of candidates for the general elections expected to be held in April-May.
Here are the seven Union Ministers who are fielded by the BJP to contest LS elections:
- Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will be vying for electoral success from Porbandar in Gujarat.
- Minister of State for IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar has been chosen from the Thiruvananthapuram seat.
- Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia is slated to contest from Guna in Madhya Pradesh.
- Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav is set to fight from Alwar in Rajasthan.
- Union Fisheries Minister Purshotam Rupala is fielded from Rajkot, Gujarat.
- Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan will be contesting from the Attingal constituency in Kerala.
- Former Assam Chief Minister and current Cabinet Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, as well as AYUSH, Sarbananda Sonowal, will be in the electoral fray from Dibrugarh in Assam.

The BJP on March 2 released the first list of 195 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The first list of candidates includes 34 central ministers and MoS and Lok Sabha Speaker. The list comprises 28 women and 47 young leaders spreading across 16 states and Union Territories.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media platform X to congratulate the BJP leaders named in the party's first list of candidates.
