-Barhait constituency is one the key assembly constituencies, where chief minister Hemant Soren is contesting against BJP’s Gamliyel Hembrom.

-In 2019, Hemant secured a win from this seat with 73,725 votes. BJP’s Simon Malto, meanwhile, secured 47,985 votes.

-Soren also won the seat in the 2014 polls with 62,515 votes. BJP’s Hemlal Murmu bagged 38,428 votes.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren contested from Barhait, his wife Kalpana Soren from Gandey, while the Leader of Opposition Amar Kumar Bauri (BJP) fought from Chandankiyari.

As many as 1,211 candidates were in the fray – including Babulal Marandi from the BJP in Dhanwar and Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato from the JMM in Nala.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) sent a letter to the Election Commission on Friday night requesting the suspension of internet services within a 2-kilometer radius of vote counting centers. In their letter, the JMM alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has brought in electronic experts from outside states.

The JMM also demanded a ban on electronic gadgets near the counting centres.

"We have come to know through reliable sources that the BJP has deputed highly qualified electronic experts from other states outside counting centres. This is a serious matter," JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya claimed in the letter to the Election Commission.

"We have come to know through reliable sources that the BJP has deputed highly qualified electronic experts from other states outside counting centres. This is a serious matter," JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya claimed in the letter to the Election Commission.

Demanding a fair and transparent counting process, he said that Internet services should be suspended within a 2 km radius of the counting centres and announcements of results should be made after every round of counting through loudspeakers.

In the 2019 assembly elections, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha secured 30 seats and the BJP only 25, down from 37 in the 2014 polls. The JMM-Congress-RJD alliance won a comfortable majority with 47 seats.

The BJP-led NDA is expected to win the Jharkhand assembly elections, most exit polls say. According to the Matrize exit poll, the NDA is likely to get between 42-47 seats while the JMM-Congress-RJD coalition is expected to win around 25-30. The People's Pulse exit poll too gave the edge to the NDA, predicting 44-53 seats for the NDA with the JMM coalition behind at 25- 37. However, AXIS-My India has predicted that JMM-Congress is likely to sweep the state with 53 out of 81 seats.
