A video from Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Jail showing an undertrial prisoner celebrating his birthday inside the prison has gone viral, leading to an official probe.
The clip shows Srinivasa, also known as Gubbachhi Seena, a rowdy-sheeter, cutting a five-layered cake with a knife as fellow inmates clap and whistle in celebration.
He is also seen wearing a garland made of apples. The video was allegedly filmed by another inmate inside the high-security jail, where mobile phones are strictly banned.
Police officials said they are investigating how such a large cake and a camera managed to enter the prison, calling it a serious violation of prison rules and supervision.
Seena is currently in jail for allegedly murdering his rival, Venkatesha, in Bengaluru’s Dodda Bommasandra area earlier this year. He was arrested in February after being shot in the leg during an attempted escape.
Former IPS officer Bhaskar Rao shared the video on social media platform X, slamming the Congress-led Karnataka government.
"Parappana Agrahara Jail is in news again. A massive cake enters the jail, and a rowdy with all his incarcerated mini rowdies celebrates his birthday with total impunity, and the same is recorded and uploaded on social media. Governance has gone to pits, Contractors are now publicly crying about corruption. Youths are on the streets to demand filling vacancies, Bengaluru administration is at its worst with potholes and garbage, four Congress MLAs are in jail," he said.
Rao also accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar of allowing law and order to deteriorate, saying the viral video reflected a “collapse of governance.”
