Haryana police, along with the central intelligence agencies, on Monday arrested a man named Mohammad Tarif has from Kangarka village in the Tawadu area of Nuh district on charges of spying for Pakistan. This comes just two days after another man, Arman from Rajaka village, was arrested for similar charges, according to a report by India Today.
According to the police, Tarif was sharing confidential military information with two Pakistani officials working at the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi. He sent these details using WhatsApp.
A case has been registered against Tarif and the two Pakistani officials, Asif Baloch and Jafar, under the Official Secrets Act and laws related to treason. Police said Tarif was caught near Radha Swami Satsang Ghar in village Bavla. He was detained by a special police force from Chandigarh with the help of local police and the Central Investigation Agency, the report said.
When the police team arrived, Tarif tried to delete chats from his phone. However, investigators found Pakistani WhatsApp numbers on his device, and some data had already been erased.
In a video confession, Tarif admitted that he had visited Pakistan several times and had given SIM cards to Pakistani officials. He also said he shared sensitive information with a Pakistani officer who gave him money in return.
Several such arrests have taken place after the April 22 Pahalgam attacks. One of them includes popular YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra from Haryana, who was arrested in Hisar. She reportedly had connections with a Pakistani officer named Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish and had visited Pakistan twice.
Another man, 26-year-old Arman from Nuh, was also arrested. Police found messages, photos, and videos on his phone that were allegedly shared with Pakistani agents.
On May 15, police arrested a 24-year-old man named Nauman Ilahi in Panipat. He was a security guard in a factory and is accused of giving sensitive information to a Pakistan-based ISI agent. He is originally from Uttar Pradesh.
In another case on May 4, Punjab Police arrested two men, Palak Sher Masih and Suraj Masih, for allegedly leaking photos and details of Army areas and air bases in Amritsar.
Another arrest was made in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, where a man named Shehzad was caught for his links to ISI. He had visited Pakistan multiple times and was involved in illegal trade of goods across the border.
