As work on the Noida International Airport nears completion, officials announced that the Ground Transportation Centre (GTC), a key facility being developed between the two terminals, will be ready ahead of the airport’s commercial launch at the end of 2025.
The GTC, spread across 20 acres, will serve as the airport’s main hub for all ground-level transport services. It is being developed on the lines of London’s Heathrow and Germany’s Frankfurt airports, said Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority’s (Yeida) CEO R K Singh.
“In its first phase, it will be able to handle around 1,200 vehicles, including cabs, taxis, and buses, all located within walking distance of the terminal,” R K Singh was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying.
Travel links across North India
To ensure smooth passenger transit from day one, the airport operator, Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), has signed agreements with UP State Roadways (UPSRTC), Uttarakhand and Haryana roadways, and private operators such as Uber, Rapido, and Mahindra for cab and bus services.
Officials said that bus services will begin operating from the first day of the airport’s commercial launch.
These routes will connect Noida International Airport with key destinations in western Uttar Pradesh and major cities in Uttarakhand like Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Haldwani. Cities in Haryana including Palwal, Faridabad, Gurugram, Kurukshetra, Chandigarh, Hisar, Narnaul, Panipat, and Ambala will also be directly connected. The parking bays for these services are already nearing completion.
The GTC will become the airport’s central hub for multiple transport modes once the operations will reach its peak. Plans include underground metro and Namo Bharat train stations, while the concourse above will house retail outlets, restaurants and lounges, said officials.
“Once complete in three phases over the next five years, the facility will cater to nearly 50,000 vehicles, including 40 buses, 4,500 cars, and two-wheelers,” said a NIAL officer.
Airport awaits DGCA clearance
Meanwhile, work on the airport itself is almost complete. The 3,900-metre runway and air traffic control tower are ready, while the terminal building, spread across 100,000 square metres, is in its final stages of finishing.
Installation of glass façades, boarding bridges, e-gates, baggage systems, and security scanners has already been completed. Major infrastructure works including power, water, firefighting systems, taxiways, and fuel facilities are also done.
The CISF has taken over the security of the site, and the airport is now awaiting aerodrome licence clearance from the DGCA, expected within 10 days. Once cleared, commercial operations can begin within 45 days of the airport’s inauguration on October 30.
“The airport will be completed this month before the inauguration. Preparations are in full swing, and all agencies are working together to ensure a smooth and successful launch,” said R K Singh.
