Residents of Hyderabad awoke to a distinct chill on Tuesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reporting a minimum temperature of 13.2 degrees Celsius and forecasting misty conditions to persist.
The capital’s cool morning is part of a broader cold wave sweeping across Telangana, prompting official alerts for several northern districts.
The IMD’s seven-day forecast for Hyderabad, detailed in its latest bulletin, indicates that the city can expect the chilly mornings to continue, with minimum temperatures remaining below 15 degrees Celsius until at least November 22. Maximum temperatures are expected to hover around a moderate 29 degrees Celsius to 30 degrees Celsius, creating a significant dip in the overnight mercury.
Beyond the capital, the cold wave has intensified. The IMD has issued a cold wave alert for Tuesday for five districts: Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Sangareddy and Medak.
The weather agency has further warned that these conditions are likely to continue and intensify into Wednesday, with cold wave to severe cold wave conditions expected across the state.
Data from the IMD underscores the severity of the drop. Adilabad and Medak districts recorded the state's lowest minimum temperatures, a brisk 8.7 degrees Celsius and 9 degrees Celsius respectively.
While daytime temperatures in other districts like Khammam and Mahabubnagar reached up to 31 degrees Celsius, the stark contrast between day and night highlights the cold wave's intensity.
Meteorological analysis from the report indicated that minimum temperatures at a few locations remained significantly below normal. The IMD has advised residents in the affected districts, particularly where temperatures have fallen below 10 degrees Celsius, to take necessary precautions against the cold. The persistent forecast suggests the state is facing a prolonged period of chilly nights, marking a definitive shift in the seasonal weather pattern.
