In view of the heavy rain forecast for Tamil Nadu, several districts have announced school holiday on Monday.
According to a report by the Hindu, District Collector MS Prasanth has declared holiday for schools in Kallakurichi district on Monday. Ramanathapuram District Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon also declared one-day holiday for schools due to heavy rain.
Puducherry Home Minister A. Namassivayam announced that all schools and colleges in the Puducherry and Karaikal regions will remain closed on Monday due to heavy rainfall.
A holiday has also been declared for schools across several Tamil Nadu districts, including Virudhunagar, Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Ariyalur and Karur.
Amid forecasts of intense rainfall in multiple districts, the Tamil Nadu government has deployed three teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli to assist with precautionary and emergency measures.
According to an official release citing the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rain is expected in Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Madurai, Virudhunagar and Ramanathapuram. District Collectors have been instructed to take necessary preparedness steps. Two SDRF teams have been stationed in Thoothukudi and one team in Tirunelveli.
The Northeast monsoon has strengthened across southern Tamil Nadu, leading to widespread downpours in Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanniyakumari districts.
