Gurugram police have detained two individuals for questioning following the discovery of a Ugandan woman’s body near a key highway intersection on Sunday morning, in a case investigators suspect may involve sexual assault.
The grim discovery was made around 5.30 am near the IMT Manesar Chowk slip road on the Delhi-Jaipur National Highway. According to a report in the TOI, the victim, believed to be in her mid-30s, was found in a pool of blood. A senior police officer confirmed that forensic teams had conducted a thorough examination of the scene before the body was moved for a postmortem to ascertain the precise cause of death.
Authorities are currently investigating the possibility that the woman was either pushed from a moving vehicle or thrown from the nearby flyover. The investigation is in its preliminary stages, with law enforcement pursuing multiple lines of enquiry.
“The suspects are being questioned in detail. At this point, we are not ruling out any angle, including sexual assault, robbery, or a dispute with acquaintances. The exact motive will be established once the investigation progresses,” a senior officer was cited by TOI as saying.
Central to the probe is the analysis of CCTV footage harvested from cameras along the highway and the adjoining areas around IMT Chowk. This evidence is considered crucial for piecing together the victim’s final movements and identifying the sequence of events that led to her death.
As reported by TOI, investigators are also working to trace the woman's associates in the vicinity to build a clearer picture of her activities in the days preceding her death. This step is vital for establishing a timeline and potential motive.
A definitive conclusion on the nature of the injuries and the circumstances, however, awaits the outcome of the postmortem examination. “Further details will be ascertained after the postmortem examination regarding the nature of injuries and the sequence of events,” the police officer stated.
