A senior woman officer of Bhopal Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police Kalpana Raghuvansh, allegedly stole Rs 2 lakh in cash and a phone from a friend's house, presenting an unprecedented situation for Madhya Pradesh police.
A case of theft has been filed against Raghuvanshi, posted at the state Police Headquarters.
The cop has gone missing since the case came to light. The incident took place in the Jahangirabad area of Bhopal.
According to the complaint, the victim had left her mobile phone on charge before going to take a bath. During that time, Raghuvanshi allegedly entered the house and took away Rs 2 lakh in cash along with another mobile phone from her handbag, NDTV reported.
When the complainant noticed the missing items, she reviewed the CCTV footage from her home and found DSP Raghuvanshi entering and exiting the house and holding what appeared to be a bundle of cash while leaving the premises.
The woman immediately filed a complaint with the local police, following which an FIR was registered. The CCTV footage has been collected as key evidence in the case.
Additional Superintendent of Police Bittu Sharma confirmed that the complainant’s mobile phone was later recovered from the accused officer’s residence. “The complainant’s mobile phone has been recovered," he said.
