Bengaluru residents are awash with nostalgia and surprise as Indiranagar’s iconic “KFC Signal” undergoes a significant transformation.
The junction — long recognised for the towering KFC bucket that once dominated the skyline above the signal — is now being replaced, a change that many long-time locals say feels like the end of an era, Hindustan Times reported.
For years, the KFC bucket stood as more than just a landmark — it was a cultural cue woven into directions, memories and the everyday routines of commuters.
News of its replacement has sparked a wave of emotion online, with many sharing how closely the junction was connected to their personal stories and sense of the city.
Sharing the update on X, a user wrote, “KFC signal has lost its KFC”
In response, one user wrote, “What? My goodness. My entire childhood was spent in the park opposite to it and I even saw it open. Damn.” Another added, “End of an era in Indiranagar.”
Many residents connected the change to the wider evolution of the neighbourhood, noting how much Indiranagar has transformed over the years.
“End of the pre-Metro CMH Road era. So many days spent on KFC signal,” one post read. Others joked about how confusing it would be to rename such a deeply rooted reference point. “Imagine now saying ‘Pizza Hut signal’,” a user quipped.
Despite the makeover, many believe the nickname will live on. For some, the change marks a symbolic moment in Bengaluru’s ever-evolving urban landscape.
The new structure at the junction is still being installed, but for many Bengalureans, the “KFC Signal” will remain unchanged in their collective memory.
