The holy city of Ayodhya is preparing for the grand ‘Dhvajarohan’ (flag hoisting) ceremony at the Ram Janmabhoomi temple, scheduled for November 25.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist a saffron flag atop the temple’s 161-foot-high main spire, marking the first time all seven spires of the temple will be adorned with saffron flags, officials from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust said on Tuesday.
The ceremony will be conducted in the presence of RSS chief Dr Mohan Bhagwat, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The date coincides with Vivah Panchami, a festival celebrating the divine marriage of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita.
All about the saffron flag
The special saffron flag, measuring 22 feet by 11 feet, has been made using durable parachute fabric and silk threads. It will be mounted on a 42-foot pole fixed atop the main spire through a 360-degree rotating mechanism, allowing it to flutter freely in all directions.
The triangular flag carries sacred symbols including the Sun, ‘Om’, and the Kovidar tree, each holding deep spiritual meaning in Hindu tradition.
Massive preparations across Ayodhya
Extensive preparations are underway across the city. Senior state officials and members of the Temple Trust are stationed in Ayodhya, closely monitoring arrangements. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) are also tracking every development in real time.
The event will be broadcast live on major television networks and digital platforms. A 200-foot-wide LED screen will be set up for attendees inside the temple complex, while over 30 large screens will be placed across the city for public viewing.
To host the large number of guests, 1,600 rooms have been booked in Ayodhya and nearby areas such as Karsevakpuram, Ramsevakpuram, and Teerth Kshetra Puram. Arrangements for bedding and blankets have also been made.
Temple Trust Secretary Champat Rai said around 6,000 invited guests will attend the ceremony. Entry to the temple will open at 8 am and close by 9 am, with the event concluding by 2 pm. Regular darshan will remain suspended for the general public that day.
Ayodhya has been decorated with saffron flags, floral garlands, and vibrant lighting. The Tourism and Culture Department will organise Ram Katha recitations, devotional songs, and folk and classical performances by renowned artists between November 21 and 25.
The Municipal Corporation is leading a beautification drive, which includes repairing roads, repainting ghats, and planting trees. Meanwhile, colourful Ram Barat processions, depicting Lord Ram’s wedding, will take place across multiple locations after 4 pm on November 25.
