Aster DM Healthcare is eyeing a 300-basis-point margin boost over the next 12 to 18 months, deputy managing director Alisha Moopen has told Moneycontrol, as the firm integrates with Blackstone-backed Quality Care India Ltd (QCIL).

The comments follow a near-unanimous 96.68 percent approval from shareholders and creditors on March 11 for the merger, which will create India's third largest hospital chain.

Moopen said the merger’s financial logic is already evident from months of joint planning. “We definitely see a lot of potential for synergies and cost efficiencies,” she said. Unified procurement across medicine formularies, medical equipment and consumables will serve as the company's largest efficiency lever.

“Our goal is to improve operating margins by at least 200–300 basis points,” she said, pointing to an already strong EBITDA of over Rs 1,496 crore at above 20 percent margin for the first nine months of FY26. The merged entity’s revenue was Rs 6,913 crore.

‘Bigger, better’

Aster DM announced its merger with Blackstone‑backed Quality Care in November 2024 in a deal valuing the combined entity at about Rs 42,000–43,000 crore ($5 billion), creating one of India’s biggest hospital chains.

The rationale centres on scale, cost synergies and a stronger multi‑brand, multi‑cluster network spanning more than 10,600 beds. The 28-city network, including a hospital in Bangladesh, is aimed at enhancing efficiency, clinical depth and expansion.

The share‑swap ratio resulted in Aster promoters holding 24 percent and Blackstone holding 30.7 percent in the merged entity, with the rest held by public and other shareholders.

The company expects to complete the merger in the next quarter, subject to NCLT approvals.

Alisha’s father and founder‑chairman Dr Azad Moopen, will continue as the executive chairman, with the Moopen family and Blackstone each holding three board seats along with six independent directors.

Varun Khanna, who led QCIL, takes over as the managing director and group CEO of the combined entity. Moopen will continue on the board and as the deputy MD.

Integration planning has been underway for nearly a year, allowing both management teams to align, build trust, and prime the machinery for a 10,000-plus bed institution, Moopen said.

The transition has been structured to avoid disruption at the clinical and operational levels. “Ninety percent of the organisation will see no change in their day‑to‑day life,” she said. “This is not about manpower optimisation. If anything, we need more people to build a national healthcare platform.”

Local branding to continue

One of the most sensitive decisions — whether to unify all hospitals under a single brand — has been settled in favour of continuity.

“Each brand has power, each brand has strength,” Moopen said. “We don’t want to plaster one brand over everything. Care is deeply loved in Hyderabad, KIMS has strong equity in Kerala, and Aster is our premium brand. We want to leverage that rather than homogenise it.” Branding will therefore remain local, even as backend operations are centralised to unlock efficiency.

Though the family’s shareholding will reduce after the merger with QCIL, its long‑term commitment to the company remains unchanged, Moopen said. The family sees itself as stewards of the organisation for generations, she said.

“Currently, we hold 42 percent of the stake… in the merged entity, we will be 24 percent,” Moopen said. “Nevertheless… from a control perspective, from a direction perspective, I think the family's goal is to be in this for the long run, for generations to come,&quot; she said.

For Moopen, the focus shifts to execution. “The next three years are about building the foundation for the next decade,” she said.

Auto stocks came under heavy selling pressure on Thursday morning, with the Nifty Auto index plunging nearly 3 percent and automobile companies dominating the Nifty top losers list, as crude oil prices surged back above $100 a barrel, stoking fears of fuel-driven inflation.

At 10:44 am, the Sensex was down 550 points or 0.7 percent at just above 76,300, while the Nifty fell to below 23,700. Market breadth remained weak with 2,481 shares declining against 1,049 advances on the NSE.

The Nifty Auto index fell 2.8 percent -- the most among sectoral indices, as higher energy prices triggered concerns about input cost pressures and demand outlook for automobile companies.

Among the biggest losers on the Nifty, Mahindra &amp;amp; Mahindra shares dropped about 3.45 percent, emerging as the top laggard on the benchmark index. Other automobile stocks also saw broad-based selling. Eicher Motors stock declined around 2.8 percent, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles dropped about 2.5 percent, and Maruti Suzuki fell about 2.4 percent. Two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto slipped roughly 2.2 percent, placing five auto stocks among the top losers on the Nifty during the session.

The weakness in the sector comes amid renewed surge in crude oil markets following escalating tensions in the Middle East and reports of shipping disruptions near the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route. Crude oil prices have risen again, with Brent crude hovering near $100 per barrel, raising concerns about higher fuel costs and a potential uptick in inflation.

For automobile companies, higher crude prices have multiple implications. It can increase fuel costs for consumers, affect vehicle demand, and also raise input costs through petrochemical-linked components such as plastics, synthetic rubber, and other derivatives used in making vehicles.

Additionally, the market is also watching potential disruptions in gas and CNG supply chains, as a significant portion of global energy trade moves through the Middle East. Any prolonged disruption could influence fuel availability and pricing dynamics in key markets.

The broader market remained under pressure amid global risk-off sentiment linked to geopolitical tensions and rising energy prices. Other Nifty losers included Trent, Titan Company, and Hindalco, which fell between 1.8 percent and 2.8 percent. Sectorally, weakness extended beyond automobiles. The Nifty Consumer Durables index declined about 1.9 percent, while the Nifty FMCG index fell around 1.5 percent and the Nifty Metal index slipped about 1.4 percent.

Meanwhile, energy-related stocks provided some support to the market. The Nifty Energy index rose over 1 percent, and the Nifty Oil &amp;amp; Gas index gained about 0.7 percent, reflecting the positive impact of higher crude prices on upstream energy companies. Market volatility remained elevated, with the India VIX rising more than 4 percent.

KEC International share price declined 2 percent in the opening trade on March 12 despite the company won T&amp;amp;D orders of Rs 1,476 crore.

At 09:17am, KEC International was quoting at Rs 536.40, down Rs 11.40, or 2.08 percent, on the BSE.

&quot;.... has secured new orders of Rs 1,476 crore for transmission &amp;amp; distribution projects in India, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas,&quot; company said in its release.

The orders included 380 kV Transmission lines, substations and EHV Cabling (Composite order) in Saudi Arabia, 132 kV transmission lines in Africa, supply of towers in India and the Americas and supply of hardware and poles in the Americas, it added.

“We are pleased with the new order wins in our T&amp;amp;D business across multiple geographies. The award of our largest composite order in Saudi Arabia despite the current geopolitical situation is a positive indicator of continuing investments in the Middle East T&amp;amp;D market,&quot; said Vimal Kejriwal, MD &amp;amp; CEO, KEC International.

&quot;The order in Africa reflects a gradual recovery in the T&amp;amp;D market in that region. These wins have significantly strengthened our international T&amp;amp;D order book. With these orders, our year-to-date order intake now stands at ~Rs. 22,800 crore,” he added.

In the month of February, the company secured new orders of Rs 1,002 crores in Transmission &amp;amp; Distribution (T&amp;amp;D) and Cables &amp;amp; Conductors segment.

The share touched a 52-week high of Rs 947.30 and a 52-week low of Rs 517.90 on 26 June, 2025 and 02 March, 2026, respectively. Currently, the stock is trading 42.17 percent below its 52-week high and 5.77 percent above its 52-week low. The market capitalisation of the company stands at Rs 14,582.44 crore.

The share price plunged 36 percent in the last 6 months.

KEC International wins Rs 1,476 crore T&D orders; share price down 2%

Omnitech Engineering share price added nearly 2 percent in the opening trade on March 12 following the company bagged an order of Rs 920 crore from Weatherford Products GmbH.

At 09:19am, Omnitech Engineering was quoting at Rs 213.25, up Rs 3.80, or 1.81 percent, on the BSE.

The company has secured this contract through master purchase agreement and is to be executed in five years.

A meeting of board of directors of the company is scheduled to be held on March 14, 2026 to consider, approve &amp;amp; take on record, the standalone and consolidated unaudited financial results of the company for the third quarter and nine months ended December 31, 2025.

The stock is trading close to the previous resistance levels of Rs 452–454, which are now acting as support, following the principle of polarity. The stock is consistently trading above all its major exponential moving averages, i.e., the 20-day, 50-day, 100-day, and 200-day EMAs, with all the EMAs sloping higher.

Fresh buying can be initiated in the stock at current prices as the accumulation phase, which is accompanied by falling volumes, is near completion.

Additionally, DI+ positioned above DI- in the ADX indicator reflects a strong bullish presence. The stock has also closed above the upper Bollinger Band for two consecutive sessions, suggesting strengthening momentum and the potential for further upside in the near term. Hence, we recommend accumulating the stock in the zone of Rs 229–227 with a stop-loss of Rs 218. On the upside, it is likely to test the level of Rs 245 in the short term.
