Smallcap World Fund Inc, a mutual fund owned by US-based Capital Group, has acquired additional more than 2 percent equity stake in Shaily Engineering Plastics, the injection moulded precision plastic components maker, via open market transactions on March 12.

Shaily Engineering Plastics shares ended 0.15 percent higher at Rs 1,911.4 amid high volumes on the National Stock Exchange.

Smallcap World Fund Inc has acquired 2.98 lakh shares in Shaily at Rs 1,878.41 per share, and 6.43 lakh shares at Rs 1,879 per share, totalling to 2.04 percent stake worth Rs 176.88 crore.

The mutual fund already held 5.09 percent equity stake in ace investor Ashish Kacholia-backed Shaily Engineering as of December 2025.

Meanwhile, there was block deal in Kaynes Technology India, the IoT solutions-enabled integrated electronics manufacturer, which shares finished the session at Rs 3,700.3, down 0.69 percent.

BofA Securities Europe SA has bought 1.16 lakh shares (equivalent to 0.17 percent of paid-up equity) in Kaynes at Rs 3,614.4 per share, valued at Rs 41.95 crore. However, Kadensa Master Fund, and Bluepearl Map I LP were the sellers in this block deal, offloading 46,934 shares for Rs 16.96 crore, and 69,148 shares for Rs 24.99 crore, respectively, at same price.

The brisk action was also seen in Skipper, the transmission and distribution structure manufacturer, which rallied 3.19 percent to Rs 351.35 on the NSE. Pragya Mercantile has bought 8 lakh shares (0.7 percent stake) in the company at Rs 340.96 per share for Rs 27.27 crore, however, Santosh Industries sold 10 lakh shares (0.88 percent stake) at Rs 345.55 per share, amounting to Rs 34.55 crore.

Neo Real Asset Yield Fund has acquired 15.43 units in IndiaGrid Infrastructure Trust from Sankhya Financial Services at Rs 162.68 per unit for Rs 25.11 crore.

SEPC shares hit the lowest closing level since December 2021 as it has been in a downward journey since September 2024 with making lower high-lower structure. On Thursday, it plunged 4.45 percent to Rs 6.23, may be after promoter Mark AB Welfare Trust sold 85 lakh shares (0.43 percent stake) at Rs 6.24 per share, valued at Rs 5.3 crore.

The defence shares remained subdued on Thursday, with the Nifty India Defence index extending its losses for a second straight session, even as tensions escalate between the United States and Iran.

During Thursday’s session, only five of the 18 constituents of the index were trading in the green, while the rest were in the red. Dynamatic Technologies and Paras Defence and Space Technologies were among the major laggards, declining up to 3 percent.

The muted performance comes despite steady growth in India’s defence exports. Exports rose to Rs 23,600 crore in FY25, with the government targeting Rs 50,000 crore by FY29, indicating continued momentum in overseas demand.

Countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain have historically increased defence spending during periods of geopolitical tension. Analysts estimate that a 10–15 percent rise in regional procurement budgets could create an incremental export opportunity of Rs 25,000–40,000 crore for emerging suppliers such as India.

However, unlike earlier conflicts such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict or Operation Sindoor, defence stocks have not witnessed strong buying interest so far.
Key factors behind decline in defence shares
1) Shift in modern warfare technologies: In the current conflict involving US and Israel with Iran, the modern warfare is increasingly influenced by the cost of engagement. According to a report by Choice Institutional Equities, relatively inexpensive loitering munitions such as the Shahed drone, which costs about USD 20,000, have often required interception using high-end air defence systems that can cost several hundred thousand to more than a million dollars per engagement.

This dynamic is driving demand for cost-effective counter-drone systems, layered air defence and electronic warfare solutions, areas where Indian companies are gradually building capabilities.

The report said Bharat Electronics Ltd (radar and electronic warfare), Bharat Dynamics Ltd (missile systems), Data Patterns (India) Ltd (mission-critical electronics) and Zen Technologies (counter-drone systems) are among companies that could benefit from potential export opportunities.

2) Focus shifting to execution: Analysts say that while order books across defence companies remain strong and inflows appear promising, execution will be the key factor for investors.

&quot;During previous conflicts, a lot of the rally came through price discovery and momentum supported by liquidity. Now that discovery premium is largely gone. The markets have already factored in the order books and demand for defence. What the market wants to see now is actual execution by companies while maintaining margins,&quot; said Nirav R Karkera, Head of Research at Fisdom.

3) Concerns over supply chain constraints: Brokerage firm Motilal Oswal said supply chain issues could also weigh on sentiment in the near term. The brokerage noted that availability of specialised components and imported subsystems could impact execution timelines for certain defence platforms.

Despite the current weakness, analysts remain constructive on the sector over the longer term.

Ajit Mishra, Senior Vice-President (Research) at Religare Broking, said the broader structure for defence stocks remains positive.

&quot;The base is set for the next leg of the up move in defence counters, though the prevailing negative sentiment is capping the upside. Participants should use this phase to gradually accumulate quality names with strong earnings visibility and reasonable valuation,&quot; he said.

Among the biggest gainers, NTPC Green Energy jumped 11.8 percent, while Solex Energy surged 11.9 percent. KPI Green Energy rose around 8.9 percent, and Saatvik Green Energy gained 3.7 percent, indicating strong buying interest across the solar equipment and renewable project development space.

Additional gains were seen in Suzlon Energy, Vikram Solar, and Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency, which rose between 2 percent and 3 percent during the session.

The rally in renewable energy stocks comes amid renewed volatility in conventional energy markets. Brent crude has again moved close to the $100 per barrel mark, following reports of shipping disruptions and attacks on vessels near the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route.

The escalation of the Middle East conflict has raised concerns about supply disruptions and higher fuel costs worldwide, prompting investors to look toward sectors that may benefit from the shift toward alternative energy sources.

Renewable energy companies are often seen as structural beneficiaries during periods of elevated fossil fuel prices, as higher oil and gas costs strengthen the economic case for solar and wind power adoption. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has warned pharmaceutical companies against what it described as a rise in indirect and surrogate promotion of weight-loss and other prescription medicines meant for obesity and metabolic disorders.

In a March 11 advisory , the drug regulator said companies using disease-awareness campaigns, digital outreach and influencer‑driven content to create brand recall for prescription‑only therapies, a practice that violated law.

With GLP‑1 usage expanding rapidly amid India’s mounting metabolic disease burden, the advisory signals CDSCO’s intent to draw clearer boundaries around ethical promotion and prevent consumer manipulation, particularly of vulnerable populations.

Some firms were blurring the line between public health messaging and commercial promotion at a time when GLP‑1 drugs, widely used for diabetes, obesity and metabolic conditions, have seen a surge in public interest.

Any advertisement, direct or indirect, that promotes prescription medicines to the general public, inflates efficacy claims, or implies guaranteed weight loss outcomes will be deemed misleading and may trigger regulatory action, it said.

Emphasising that obesity is a chronic condition requiring comprehensive management, CDSCO warned companies against portraying pharmacologic therapy as a shortcut solution. The agency stressed that drug‑centric messaging must not undermine national campaigns focused on diet, exercise and preventive healthcare, all of which remain first‑line interventions for weight management.

The CDSCO said even campaigns disguised as “awareness initiatives” would be scrutinised if they generate product visibility or brand association for prescription molecules. The advisory highlights that such tactics, including influencer endorsements, disease‑specific microsites, and corporate storytelling, would be treated as surrogate advertising, a practice “seriously viewed and violative”.

It asked pharma companies to strengthen transparency and accountability. Product information sheets must prominently display authorised personnel details, office codes, and dedicated helpline numbers, along with a system for complaint logging and consumer query handling.

Firms have been asked to submit Risk Management Plans (RMPs) to ensure continuous monitoring and risk‑minimisation for GLP‑1 and other high‑risk therapies.

All manufacturers, importers and marketing authorisation holders have been instructed to align immediately with the advisory, which has also been forwarded to the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) for oversight.
