1) Global cues: Asian markets traded higher, with South Korea’s Kospi and Japan’s Nikkei 225 posting gains. Futures on Wall Street also indicated a positive opening, supporting domestic equities.

“Global markets are trading mixed this Friday morning, reflecting investor caution after US indices closed lower overnight. Investors remain guarded as they assess the Federal Reserve’s latest policy signals and await upcoming economic data for clarity on the global outlook,” said analysts.

**Crude and rupee movement**
Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, fell 0.65 per cent to USD 64.58 a barrel. A decline in crude prices generally supports Indian equities as it eases inflationary pressure and improves the country’s import bill.

The rupee traded 5 paise higher at 88.64 against the US dollar in early trade, supported by softer crude prices and a weaker greenback. However, foreign fund outflows and selling pressure in equities capped gains in the domestic unit, forex dealers said.

**Technical view**
Anand James, Chief Market Strategist at Geojit Financial Services, said what was shaping up as a bullish continuation pattern in Nifty now appears to be evolving into a topping formation.

“Yesterday’s dips extended to our downside marker of 25,886, indicating underlying bearishness. We may see initial upswings today capped near 25,960, followed by potential down moves. A direct rise above 25,960 could delay or prevent a fall towards 25,700–25,400, though a sharp rise is less expected,” he noted.

Benchmark equity indices Nifty 50 and Sensex opened on a soft note on October 31, as investor sentiment remained cautious as renewed foreign investor selling and profit booking near highs weighed. However, the indices moved into the green zone after the opening bell.

At 09:35 am, the <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/indian-indices/sensex-4.html">Sensex</a> was up 272.71 points or 0.32 percent at 84,677.17, and the Nifty was up 70.20 points or 0.27 percent at 25,948.05. About 1878 shares advanced, 975 shares declined, and 178 shares unchanged.

Sectoral performance was largely positive in early trade, led by strong gains in Nifty PSU Bank (up 1.34 percent), Realty (up 0.94 percent), Auto (up 0.81 percent), and FMCG (up 0.58 percent). Nifty Consumer Durables and Oil &amp; Gas indices also advanced around half a percent each, while Financial Services, IT, and Private Bank indices saw modest gains.

However, selling pressure lingered in Healthcare (down 0.28 percent), Metal (down 0.37 percent), and Media (down 0.20 percent), capping broader market momentum.

The Trump-Xi summit delivered only a one-year truce in the US-China trade war, not a breakthrough trade deal. To that extent market participants were disappointed at the outcome even though there is relief in the declining trade tensions and possible movement towards further progress.

The near-term trend of Nifty remains positive and the short term is in profit booking mode. There is a possibility of Nifty finding support around 25800-25700 levels in the next couple of sessions before bouncing back again from the lows.

Globally, sentiment remained cautious after the U.S. Federal Reserve cut rates by 25 basis points while signaling the possibility of a pause in further easing this year.

The Nifty struggled to hold higher levels, with persistent selling dragging it lower, leading the index to close at 25,877.85 - down 176.05 points or 0.68 percent. Meanwhile, Sensex closed at 84,404.46, lower by 592.67 points or 0.70 percent on its monthly expiry.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 109.88 points, or 0.23%, to 47,522.12, the S&amp;amp;P 500 lost 68.25 points, or 0.99%, to 6,822.34 and the Nasdaq Composite lost 377.33 points, or 1.57%, to 23,581.14.



Dollar Index (Down)

The U.S. dollar held its ground in early Asian trade on Friday after reaching a three-month high as traders processed mixed signals from this week's central bank decisions, tech sector earnings and a tentative U.S.-China tariff truce.



US Bond Yield (Down)

The yields on the US 10-year Treasury were down marginally at 4.09 percent and the US 2-year Treasury yield were down 1 basis point at 3.59 percent.



Asian Currencies (Gain)

Asian currencies were trading mostly higher in the early Friday trade. However, on year-to-date basis, except Indonesian Rupiah (down 3 percent), Philippines Peso (Down 1.5 percent), all other currencies added between 2-6 percent.



Crude (Down)

Oil prices eased on Friday, heading for a third straight monthly decline, as a stronger dollar capped commodities gains while rising supply from major producers globally offset the impact of Western sanctions on Russian exports.



Gold (Up)

Gold consolidated gains from a day earlier, holding above USD 4,000 an ounce as traders weighed a US-China trade truce that failed to quash concerns about long-term competition between the world’s two largest economies.



Fund Flow Action

The Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) extended their selling on second day as they sold of Rs 3150 crore on October 30. However, the Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) continued their buying on sixth consecutive session as they bought equities of Rs 2577 crore on the same day.
