The Indian benchmark indices erased some of the intraday gains but managed to close on a positive note for the fourth consecutive session on October 7 with Nifty closing above the 25,100 amid buying seen in the auto, consumer durables, oil &amp; gas, energy, realty names.

At close, the Sensex was up 136.63 points or 0.17 percent at 81,926.75, and the Nifty was up 30.65 points or 0.12 percent at 25,108.30. BSE Midcap index added 0.4% and smallcap index was ended marginally lower.

Jio Financial, Bharti Airtel, Eternal, Eicher Motors, HCL Technologies were among major gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Trent, Tata Motors, Axis Bank, Tata Consumer and HUL.

Among sectors, energy, oil &amp; gas, pharma, telecom, consumer durables rose 0.3-2%.

Today, the benchmark indices witnessed a volatile trading session. After a roller-coaster activity, the Nifty ended 31 points higher, while the Sensex was up by 137 points. Among sectors, the Reality index outperformed, rallying 1.10 percent, whereas intraday profit booking was seen in selective Defense and FMCG stocks.

Technically, after an early morning intraday rally, the market consistently experienced profit booking near the 25,200/82300 resistance zone. However, the short-term outlook of the market remains positive. We believe that the 20-day SMA (Simple Moving Average) and the 25,000–24,950/81700-81500 zones will act as key support levels for traders. As long as the market remains above these levels, the bullish sentiment is likely to continue.

On the flip side, 25,200/82300 and 25,275/82500 would serve as key resistance levels for the bulls. For day traders, buying on intraday dips and selling on rallies would be the ideal strategy. However, below 24,950/81500, the uptrend could become vulnerable.

Nifty 50 gave up most of its intraday gains on Tuesday, October 7, which also marks the weekly expiry session, while Sensex was up 140 points. Investors are looking towards the upcoming earnings season for their next set of cues.

At close, the <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/indian-indices/sensex-4.html">Sensex</a> was up 161.86 points or 0.20 percent at 81,951.98, and the Nifty was up 34.35 points or 0.14 percent at 25,112.00. About 1686 shares advanced, 2119 shares declined, and 122 shares unchanged.

The World Bank has raised India’s GDP growth forecast for FY26 to 6.5 percent from its earlier estimate of 6.3 percent projected in June, citing resilient domestic demand. However, it revised its FY27 growth outlook downward by 20 basis points to 6.3 percent.

On the sectoral front, buying interest was notably strong in Oil &amp; Gas, Financial Services, Banking, Construction, and Consumer Durables, which led the sectoral gains. Conversely, weakness persisted in Media, Consumer Goods, and select stocks, marking them as the day's laggards.

Going ahead,  VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments believes that the ongoing mild rally in the market has the potential to gain momentum. The FII selling in India is slowly declining since the sharp appreciation in other markets has pushed up their valuations and the valuation differential between India and other markets has come down.

"The steady inflows into mutual funds, particularly the SIP inflows, is a strong support to the market. The combined effect of the Budget income tax cut, GST cuts and low interest rate regime can impart resilience to India’s GDP growth, and corporate earnings in FY27 can smartly pick up to about 15 percent. The market will start discounting this soon. Time for investors to turn positive. Since there is huge short position in the market any positive news can trigger short-covering, further aiding the rally," he added.

From a technical perspective, the Nifty decisively breached the key resistance at 25,200, potentially paving the way toward the 25,500 mark, while immediate support rests at 25,000. Similarly, Bank Nifty faces resistance at 56,500, and a breakout above this level could propel it toward 57,000, with the nearest support positioned at 56,200, said Ashika Institutional Equities.

Banking and auto stocks rose up to 0.5 percent each, while pharma, oil &amp; gas, and consumer durables indices were also firm in the green. On the flip side, Nifty IT and Nifty FMCG slipped 0.4 percent, with some losses seen in media, metals, and realty indices too.
