Gold and silver exchange traded funds (ETFs) gained in trade on February 19 as the prices of precious metals increased. Experts have highlighted what lies ahead for these safe-haven assets.

Gold futures with April expiry recorded marginal gains to rise to Rs 1,56,133 per kilogram on MCX in the morning trading hours of Thursday. Silver futures with March expiry meanwhile rose nearly 1 percent to Rs 2,45,870 per kilogram.

This comes despite a muted sentiment in global commodity prices on a firm dollar ahead of key US inflation data that could influence the Federal Reserve's interest rate-cutting trajectory. The US dollar held steady at a more than one-week high, making greenback-priced bullion more expensive for other currency holders.
<h3>Why are gold and silver prices rising today?</h3>
The rise in domestic prices of gold and silver came as the Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) and the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) announced the withdrawal of additional margins on gold and silver futures contracts, effective from today.

MCX said that the additional 3 percent margin on gold futures contracts and the 7 percent margin on silver futures contracts introduced earlier this month will be removed. These additional margins were introduced as risk management measures after a record rally in gold and silver prices earlier this year. After the recent sharp correction seen in the precious metals, the exchanges removed these additional margins.

<h3>What lies ahead?</h3>
Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst - Commodity and Currency at LKP Securities, noted that the broader structure still reflects a weak undertone with lower highs and lower lows in place for gold. “A decisive break above $5,000 on CME would be required to negate the short-term weakness and revive bullish momentum… Fed’s meeting minutes and China’s market reopening are likely to inject additional volatility in the coming sessions. Immediate support is placed near ₹1,48,000, while resistance remains around ₹1,55,000,” he added.

The week-long closure of major hubs like the Shanghai Gold Exchange (SGE) for the Lunar New Year creates a significant "liquidity vacuum" in the global bullion market, said Aamir Makda Commodity &amp; Currency Analyst, Choice Broking. "As the world’s largest physical buyers go offline, trading volumes thin out, often resulting in exaggerated price volatility and wider bid-ask spreads. Historically, this period triggers a price correction; once the pre-holiday buying pressure from China ceases, traders who entered positions early often engage in profit-taking, leading to a downward shift in momentum," the analyst added.

Silver is particularly vulnerable during this timeframe compared to gold; because Chinese industrial production hits a standstill during the festivities, the dramatic drop in manufacturing demand makes silver prices much more susceptible to a sharp decline. With this perspective, it is advised to traders to avoid taking trades in bullion,” he further said.

The drug is a dual endothelin receptor antagonist that helps lower high blood pressure in the lungs and is generally administered based on body weight, company said.

The approved product will be manufactured at the group’s formulation manufacturing facility located at SEZ, Ahmedabad, it added.

With this latest approval, the group now has 432 approvals and has filed 505 ANDAs since it began the filing process in FY 2003-04.

During an American Petroleum Institute (API) audit, certain non-conformances (NCs) were observed, and a suspension letter has been issued restricting the company from affixing the API monogram on its API seamless pipes.

The company is responding to the API and taking appropriate corrective measures to address the NCs.

The impact may not be material, as the seamless pipe manufacturing capacity is fungible and has been allocated to other products. The company will take suitable steps to comply with the requirements.

Alembic Pharmaceuticals

The United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) conducted an unannounced cGMP inspection at the company’s injectable facility (F-3) located at Karakhadi during February 9–18. The inspection has been completed with two observations. None of the observations are related to data integrity.

Hilton Metal Forging

The Board has approved the issue of 1.67 crore rights equity shares at an issue price of Rs 16.68 per share, amounting to Rs 27.97 crore, to the eligible equity shareholders of the company as on the record date, on a rights basis.

RNIT AI Solutions

The company has received a paid pilot work order from the Government of Meghalaya for the integration of the RNIT AI Solution – Face Recognition System with the Meghalaya ONE and CM Connect applications. The order is worth up to Rs 1 crore.

Cochin Shipyard

The company has signed a contract worth more than Rs 2,000 crore with France-based CMA CGM for the design and construction of six feeder container vessels, each with a capacity of about 1,700 TEU and powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The first vessel is to be delivered in 36 months, and the last vessel is to be delivered within 64 months.

BNP Paribas has acquired over Rs 54 crore worth shares in Capri Global Capital, the non-banking financial company founded in 1994, from Morgan Stanley via open market transactions on February 18.

BNP Paribas Financial Markets has bought 30.78 lakh shares (equivalent to 0.32 percent of paid-up equity) in the Capri Loans operator for Rs 54.2 crore from Morgan Stanley Asia (Singapore), as per the block deals on Wednesday.

The transaction price for the above deal was Rs 176.2 per share.

Meanwhile, there was an exchange of <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/india/stockpricequote/pharmaceuticalsdrugs/cohancelifesciences/SP19">Cohance Lifesciences</a> shares between the entities related to Jasti family, the old promoters of Suven Pharma. The Jasti family in 2022 had sold a significant stake in Suven Pharmaceuticals to Advent International and later Advent International merged Suven with Cohance Lifesciences.

Jasub Property Holdings LLP has acquired 70 lakh shares (1.82 percent stake) in Cohance Lifesciences from Jasti Family Trust for Rs 216.3 crore. The share transfer has taken place at a price of Rs 309 per share.

As of December 2025, Jasti Property and Equity Holdings, the sole trustee of the Jasti Family Trust which owns Suven Life Sciences, held 6.41 percent stake in Cohance Lifesciences.

Cohance Lifesciences shares surged 5.54 percent to Rs 325.85 amid significant volumes on Wednesday, after hitting multi-year low in previous session.

Finavenue Growth Fund sold 1.05 lakh shares in <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/india/stockpricequote/misc-commercial-services/justorealfintech/JRL">Justo Realfintech</a> at Rs 87.02 per share, amounting to Rs 91.37 lakh.
