Shares of Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) fell over 4 percent to hit a fresh 52-week low on Wednesday after the government announced offloading up to 4 percent stake in the company through an Offer for Sale (OFS).

The stock declined 4.22 percent to Rs 104.82 per share on the NSE. It has fallen about 6 percent in the last two sessions. The scrip opened gap-down, slipping 3.15 percent at the start of trade.

The decline came after the government said it will divest up to 4 percent stake in the state-owned firm under the Ministry of Railways via an OFS beginning Wednesday.

The floor price for the OFS has been fixed at Rs 104 per equity share, IRFC said in a regulatory filing.

At the floor price, the government is expected to raise around Rs 5,430 crore by offloading up to 4 percent stake.

Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) Secretary Arunish Chawla said in a post on X that the OFS for IRFC will open on Wednesday for non-retail investors, while retail investors can bid on Thursday.

"Government offers to disinvest 2% equity in the IRFC with an additional 2% as green shoe option," he said.

According to the filing, the government proposes to sell up to 26.13 crore shares, representing 2 percent of the total issued and paid-up equity share capital, with an option to additionally sell another 26.13 crore shares, constituting a further 2 percent stake.

The government currently holds 86.36 percent stake in <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/india/stockpricequote/finance-nbfc/indianrailwayfinancecorporation/IRF">IRFC</a>. Following the share sale, its holding will decline to 82.36 percent.

The Nifty IT Index is heading towards its worst February in 23 years amid continued selling pressure, as the sector remains weighed down by concerns over artificial intelligence-led disruption.

The Nifty IT index has declined 21 percent so far in February 2026, marking its steepest monthly fall since April 2003, when it dropped more than 24 percent.  So far this month, Nifty IT index lost over Rs 6.4 lakh crore market cap.

Among individual stocks, Infosys has fallen 21 percent so far in 2026, TCS has declined 19 percent and Wipro has lost 24 percent. Tech Mahindra and HCL Tech have dropped 16 percent and 18 percent, respectively.

The recent selloff follows a scenario outlined by Citrini Research in its report The 2028 Global Intelligence Crisis: A Thought Exercise in Financial History, from the Future, which states that India’s three IT majors — TCS, Infosys and Wipro — are expected to see contract cancellations accelerate through 2027 as artificial intelligence tools increasingly replace outsourced human coding.

The report notes that India’s IT services sector exports over $200 billion annually and is the single largest contributor to the country’s current account surplus, offsetting its persistent goods trade deficit. It says the sector’s model is built on the cost advantage of Indian developers compared with their American counterparts. However, the marginal cost of an AI coding agent has collapsed to what the report describes as essentially the cost of electricity. In the scenario presented, companies increasingly deploy AI-driven coding tools in place of outsourced development teams.

With the ongoing selloff, mutual funds’ combined investments in IT stocks have declined by over Rs 70,000 crore, with current holdings standing at Rs 3.2 lakh crore in February compared with Rs 3.95 lakh crore in January 2026. Foreign institutional investors’ holdings have fallen by nearly Rs 85,000 crore to Rs 4.49 lakh crore as of February 15, the lowest level in four years, down 16 percent from Rs 5.34 lakh crore at the end of January 2026.

Global brokerages Jefferies India and CLSA have also revised their stance on the sector. Jefferies said artificial intelligence may structurally change the IT business mix towards consulting and implementation while shrinking managed services. It said this could increase cyclicality and require changes in talent and operating models.

While third-quarter results led to earnings upgrades for nearly all IT firms, Jefferies said recent developments in AI have raised concerns about the medium- to long-term growth outlook and driven up to 27 percent derating. It said stock performance is likely to be tied more to the longer-term business outlook than near-term earnings delivery.

The brokerage outlined multiple growth scenarios. In the best case, maintaining long-term revenue growth in line with the previous decade would imply price-to-earnings multiples of 14 to 22 times for large IT firms, with Infosys, HCL Tech and TCS offering around 15 percent rerating potential, and 23 to 42 times for mid-sized firms such as Hexaware and IKS offering 35 to 45 percent rerating potential.

In the worst case, revenue compound annual growth rate over FY26-31 could be 3 percent lower, followed by no growth beyond FY31, leading to potential derating of 30 to 65 percent, with Wipro having the lowest and Coforge the highest derating potential. Assuming 3 percent lower growth over FY26-36 and 1 percent lower terminal growth, multiples could still decline by 10 to 35 percent for large IT firms and up to 15 percent for mid-sized firms.

Jefferies cut its earnings estimates by 1 to 4 percent and expects 6 percent earnings compound annual growth rate over FY26-28. It expects Coforge, Sagility and IKS to grow at 19 to 25 percent compound annual growth rate driven by higher revenue growth. Its estimates are 3 to 14 percent below consensus. The brokerage cut price targets by up to 33 percent, downgraded Infosys, HCL Tech and Mphasis from Buy to Hold, and TCS, LTIM and Hexaware from Hold to Underperform.

Meanwhile, CLSA said fears of AI-led disruption in Indian IT services appear overdone, citing channel checks that indicate no material shift in business positioning and management commentary pointing to a potential macro recovery in calendar year 2026. The brokerage maintained selective stock preferences including Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Coforge and Persistent Systems, while cutting price targets across the board due to valuation derating.

CLSA said that despite heightened debate around AI disruption, client spending behaviour, deal structures and service mix have not changed meaningfully. It added that AI is being absorbed largely as an incremental efficiency and productivity lever rather than a wholesale replacement of traditional IT services.

HG Infra Engineering

The company has been declared the lowest bidder by NHAI for a project worth Rs 1,582 crore. The project involves the construction of a new six-lane, access-controlled Capital Region Ring Road (Package-III) from Gobindpur (NH-55) to Tangi near Bandola Toll Plaza (NH-16) in Odisha under the Hybrid Annuity Mode.

Indian Railway Finance Corporation

The Government of India is set to sell up to 26.13 crore equity shares (2 percent stake) on February 25–26, with an option to additionally sell up to another 26.13 crore shares (2 percent stake) through a separate window of the BSE and the National Stock Exchange of India.

The floor price for the offer for sale has been fixed at Rs 104 per share.

Aditya Infotech

Promoters and Dixon Technologies are likely to sell up to a 5.8 percent stake in Aditya Infotech via a block deal, with the offer size estimated at around Rs 1,000 crore, CNBC-TV18 reported, quoting sources.

As per the filing to the exchanges, promoters Hari Khemka Business Family Trust and Rishi Khemka will sell up to a 2 percent stake in the company to comply with the minimum public shareholding requirements.

The total promoter and promoter group shareholding stood at 76.74 percent of the total paid-up equity as of February 24.

Rail Vikas Nigam

The company has received a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) for an order worth Rs 270.22 crore from Central Railway. The order involves the design, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of a 220/132/55 KV traction substation, sectioning posts (SPs), and sub-sectioning posts (SSPs) in a 2 x 25 KV traction system (Scott Connected Transformer) for the Daund–Solapur section of Central Railway.

Waaree Energies

The company’s subsidiary, Waaree Forever Energies, has received a Letter of Award from the Solar Energy Corporation of India for the development of a 300 MW wind power project in Dwarka, Gujarat.

Hindalco Industries

Novelis has announced its entry into a subscription agreement with AV Minerals, the sole shareholder of Novelis and a wholly owned subsidiary of the company. As per the agreement, AV Minerals has agreed to purchase 13.33 lakh Novelis common shares (no par value) for $200 million at a price of $150 per share.

Lupin

The pharma company has received approval from the US FDA for its Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for Brivaracetam Oral Solution 10 mg/mL.

Brivaracetam is bioequivalent to Briviact Oral Solution of UCB, Inc., and is used for the treatment of partial-onset seizures in patients aged one month and older.

Brivaracetam Oral Solution (RLD: Briviact) had estimated annual sales of $135 million in the US.

Hexaware Technologies

The IT services and solutions provider has expanded its collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to deliver AI-enabled software development lifecycle (SDLC) capabilities to enterprises worldwide. This collaboration builds on Hexaware’s Strategic Collaboration Agreement (SCA) with AWS to accelerate cloud adoption, application modernization, and AI-led transformation.

Dr Reddy's Laboratories

The company has received a letter from the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) stating that, based on the available information, the SEC has concluded its investigation and does not intend to recommend any enforcement action against the company at this time.

The company had initiated a detailed investigation into an anonymous complaint alleging improper payments to healthcare professionals in Ukraine and potentially other countries, which could constitute a violation of US anti-corruption laws, including the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. The matter was accordingly disclosed to the US Department of Justice, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The company also engaged a US law firm to conduct the investigation.

Samhi Hotels

The company’s subsidiary, Duet India Hotels (Navi Mumbai), has signed operating agreements for its assets in Navi Mumbai with Marriott Hotels India and its affiliates. This signing will further expand SAMHI’s partnership with Marriott.

The 350-room upper upscale hotel in Navi Mumbai has been signed under the Westin brand, while another 350-room upper mid-scale hotel in Navi Mumbai has been signed under the Fairfield by Marriott brand.

General Insurance Corporation of India

The Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) has recommended the name of Hitesh Rameshchandra Joshi for the position of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) at General Insurance Corporation of India.

Power Grid Corporation of India

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has increased the permissible equity investment limit of Power Grid from the current threshold of Rs 5,000 crore per subsidiary to Rs 7,500 crore per subsidiary, while retaining the existing cap of 15 percent of the company’s net worth.

The Board has approved the raising of funds worth Rs 475 crore through the issuance of equity shares via a rights issue.

PPFAS Mutual Fund has bought 5.6 crore units of the real estate investment trust at Rs 420 per unit, amounting to Rs 2,364.4 crore.

However, Capital Income Builder, American Funds, and Small Cap World Fund sold nearly 5.5 percent of the REIT’s units at the same price for Rs 2,199.7 crore.
Capital Income Builder offloaded 1.06 crore units (equivalent to 1.1 percent of the total units outstanding) for Rs 447.4 crore. American Funds Global Balanced Fund sold 1.25 crore units (1.3 percent stake) for Rs 525 crore, while 2.92 crore units (3.08 percent stake) were sold by Small Cap World Fund for Rs 1,227.3 crore.

US-based Capital Group-owned Small Cap World Fund held a 4.01 percent stake in Embassy Office Parks REIT as of December 2025.

The equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty fell more than 1 percent on Tuesday, dragged down by heavy selling in information technology (IT) shares amid concerns over artificial intelligence-led disruption and renewed trade-related uncertainties.

The decline in IT shares followed global concerns around artificial intelligence after the launch of enterprise tools such as Anthropic’s Claude Code. Market participants fear that generative AI tools could begin impacting traditional Application Development and Maintenance (ADM) revenues, a key revenue stream for Indian IT firms.

According to Sachin Gupta, Vice President – Research at Choice Broking, the Nifty IT index entered a clear bearish phase in February 2026 after correcting nearly 21 percent.

"The Nifty IT index slipped into a clear bearish phase in February 2026 after correcting nearly 21 percent. The decline gathered pace when the index broke down from a Head and Shoulders pattern on the weekly chart — a classic signal of a structural trend reversal. The fall dragged the index below its crucial 10-month low of 30,918, confirming that the broader trend has turned weak," he said.

Gupta further said the index has breached the 61.8 percent Fibonacci retracement level and witnessed a negative crossover of key moving averages, known as a ‘Death Cross’.

"This suggests that the earlier ‘buy on dips’ approach has now shifted to a ‘sell on rise’ strategy. With the index struggling to sustain even short-term pullbacks, the technical structure points to further downside toward the 29,300–28,700 support zone. A meaningful recovery is unlikely unless a strong global trigger — particularly stability in the Nasdaq — helps improve overall sentiment," he added.

Anand James, Chief Market Strategist at Geojit Investments Limited, said that while oscillators had moved into oversold territory and some positive divergence was visible in recent sessions, Tuesday’s decline has weakened the near-term outlook.

"Oscillators being oversold, and with some of them showing positive divergence, recovery signs were beginning to be visible in the last few days. However, with today’s slippage, we are below the February 13 reaction low of 31,422 with momentum indicators favouring further slide. Standard deviation studies point to 29,961 as the nearest support below, with further major support seen at 28,800 and 27,200, in the event of a collapse. Upside reversal level is seen at 30,300 intraday, and at 31,300 on a closing basis, with further resistance seen at 36,200 for the Nifty IT index, which closed at 31,550.5 on Monday," he said.

The Nifty IT index has declined over 9.4 percent in the past one week and more than 21.6 percent in the last one month.

With Tuesday’s 6 percent fall, the index has dropped over 21 percent in February so far, marking its steepest monthly decline since the 2008 global financial crisis, according to an ET report.
